How to Jump Higher in Basketball

Learning how to jump higher in basketball is just a matter of applying a few basic principles to your workout routine. See, it is easier than you think to increase your vertical leap for basketball. But more than likely your coach and teammates are passing on bad information to you.

I bet for as long as you have been playing basketball it has been your dream to dunk, hasn't it. And maybe you have achieved that goal. If so, I bet your dream now is to do is get up and dunk with more style. And who doesn't? A better shooting percentage will win the game, but slamming the ball through that hoop is going to make you the most feared player on the court.

So lets take a look at a few tips aimed at helping you jump higher in basketball.

This might sound a bit crazy, but one of the best things you can do to increase your vertical leap, as well as help in all areas of your athletic fitness, is to increase you flexibility. In addition to performance increases, you will also reduce your risk of injury. To increase flexibility you should stretch more as well as take up the practice of yoga. You don't have to do it an hour a day. But 20 minutes a couple times a week will pay off very quickly.

Jogging is another way to train your body to jump higher. By jogging regularly you are going to reduce body fat. A lighter body travels higher. Again, you don't have to turn into a marathoner. Simply adding 3 or 4 days a week of jogging a few miles is very beneficial.

Finally, tightening up and strengthening your core is going to increase your ability to jump higher in basketball. A strong midsection is going to increase your physical performance in all sports. And it makes you look good.

If you haven't reached your goal of dunking yet, then I highly recommend you get started with these tips now.
